Jon Arkin Online Class: (Re)Learning How To Practice
September 21, 2022 @ 7:45 pm
$420Wednesdays 7:45 – 9:15pm
9/21 – 11/30 (10 weeks, no class on 11/23)
The vast majority of music students will experience a sense of frustration with their progress throughout the course of their evolution as musicians. This can manifest as the feeling of reaching a plateau, or feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work needed to advance, or feeling guilty for not having more time/motivation to devote to practice. While some students find ways to channel this frustration to fuel their work ethic, many others will lapse in their practice or quit entirely.
This class, open to all instruments & levels, will explore ways of reinforcing a healthy, effective mindset in one’s practice. In learning to recognize the most common emotional traps (complacency on one side, and futility on the other), and understanding the importance of seeing the larger picture of your current level and the direction you’re headed, you can find an equilibrium which will provide the freedom to work and play at music without the distractions of ego and ambition.
